Gallstone symptoms in women can be various, depending on the woman. These gallstones are just bile, in solid pieces, that form in the gallbladder in a person. For those who do not know where the gallbladder is located, it is under the liver, in the right, upper section of the abdominal cavity. The gallbladder plays a role in the biliary system, along with the liver and pancreas. This system has the role of creating digestive enzymes and the bile that the body needs. Bile is just a liquid that helps with the digestion of fats and is just held in the gallbladder until it is needed to do its job.
Gallstones can come in many different sizes. They can be as small as a granule of sand, or as large as a golf ball. Most people, however, will have several small gallstones rather than a large one.
All kinds of people have gallstones each year, but not all of them show symptoms. For women, gallstones are much more common for those who are middle-aged or overweight. Other things that effect the chances of having gallstones are having been pregnant or taking birth control.
Usually, people only have symptoms of gallstones if there is a problem. The most common symptom that is encountered is stomach pain. Other symptoms include, but are not limited to, fever, bloating, jaundice, nausea, indigestion, vomiting, and an intolerance to some foods.
There is a popular theory out there that is known to be a cure for gallstones. This is known as the cinnamon and honey hoax. It is said that mixing these foods together can get rid of gallstones, but this has not been proven. Even though it has not been proven, there is no harm in trying this myth because these substances are not harmful to the body.
